National Committee on the Reform and Harmonisation of Arbitration & ADR Laws Mr. Babatunde Fagbohunlu was recently appointed Secretary to the National Committee on the Reform and Harmonisation of Arbitration & ADR Laws. The objectives of the Committee are to review Nigeria’s laws on arbitration and other ADR mechanisms with a view to proposing necessary reforms; to bring the laws in line with modern trends, and to perform such other acts as are necessary for the realisation of the objective of giving Nigeria a modern law and procedure on alternative disputes resolution.
The Committee is presently preparing a draft Federal Arbitration & Conciliation Bill.

13th Annual Wharton Africa Business Forum Mr. Gbenga Oyebode was a member of the panel on “Entrepreneurship & Leadership” at the 13th Annual Wharton Business Forum organised by the Wharton Africa Business Forum at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. The Forum took place at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, on the 19th of November, 2005. Over 30 speakers including CEO’s, policy makers and academics participated in the Forum.
The objective of the panel on Entrepreneurship & Leadership was to present each panellist’s individual experiences with entrepreneurship and leadership in Africa, including challenges faced, successes, and overall insights on the African business environment and to discuss entrepreneurial opportunities and challenges within the current African economic environment.

• The IBA/SEERIL Regional
Conference, 2006 took place between the 29th and 31st of January,
2006 at Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.
The Conference was the 2nd IBA Conference to be held in Nigeria and
the first hosted by the IBA’s Section on Energy, Environment,
Natural Resources and Infrastructure Law. The theme of the conference
was “Developing Energy and Mining Projects in Emerging Markets”.
Mr. Gbenga
Oyebode, the Managing Partner of Aluko & Oyebode and Chief
Sena Anthony, the Group General Manager, Legal, NNPC were Co-Chairs

• The Petroleum Economist in association
with Aluko & Oyebode hosted a 4-day training titled
“Understanding Gas & Power Developments in Emerging Market”.
The course was specially designed for bankers, project financiers,
management consultants, oil and gas executives, officials of government
institutions, regulators, legal practitioners and economists. It took
palce from the 15th - 18th of March, 2004 at Le Meridien Eko Hotel,
Lagos.

February 2004
• As part of Aluko & Oyebode’s commitment
to environmental issues, the Firm recently joined the Nigerian
Conservation Foundation (NCF). NCF is Nigeria’s foremost environmental
Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) with national and international
recognition.
NCF works with rural communities to promote conservation education
and provides support to agencies that protect Nigeria’s wildlife
and their habitats. NCF was established in 1980 and registered as
a charitable trust in 1982. Its mission is to promote nature conservation
and sustain the ecological processes in Nigeria.
NCF is an associate of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), a partner
to Birdlife International and has a close working relationship with
the World Conservation Union (IUCN) and the Royal Society for the
Protection of Birds (RSPB). In 1982 it won the United Nations Environmental
Programme (UNEP) Global 500 Award for excellence in environmental
conservation.
